86 Year Old Woman Shoots Attacker with Violent Criminal History

Date:
May 17, 2013
Time:
Unreported
Location:
Lakeland, FL
Crime Prevented:
 Assault, Murder
Description of Bad Guy(s):
 William Pennypacker, 64, the son of the homeowner, was drinking and became abusive toward his mother and started punching her in the face before pulling out a gun
Description of Good Guy(s):
 Nancy Pennypacker, 86, the mother of William Pennypacker. When her son began punching her in the face repeatedly and pulled out a gun, she withdrew a nearby gun and shot him
Type of Gun Used:
 Handgun
Outcome:
 William was killed, but not before he shot his mother once in the shoulder. She was treated for her injuries. No one else was injured by the gunfire. Authorities do not believe Nancy will face any charges.
Source(s):

Don't get me wrong; it's horrible for a mother to have to kill her own son in self-defense. However, William was already arrested in July 2011 for battery on his mother and again in July 2012 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against her. Were it not for a gun, Nancy could very well be dead. A homicide still gets tossed into the statistics, but at least it's a bad guy that died and not a good guy.

  Doug Romeo, a legal concealed handgun license holder, who was carrying that day while escorting his girlfriend, Tiffany Simo, on her newspaper route. He warned Dickey to back off and leave multiple times before quickly pulling out his own handgun and shooting at Dickey three times, hitting him all three times.
Type of Gun Used:
  Handgun
Outcome:
  Dickey ran to his own car and quickly drove off, calling for an ambulance from his home. He was treated, will survive, and will go directly to jail after his discharge from the hospital. No one else was injured by the gunfire. Romeo has not been charged with any crime
Source(s):

Here's the funny part: Dickey's brother, Robert, tried to cover up his brother's actions by saying that the two of them had been fighting and his brother was "really drunk and confused," one, as if that is a good excuse for firing your gun in public and running up to a car and pointing it at people; and two, ignoring the fact that even while drunk and confused, he jumped into his car and drove away. Yeah, because that sounds better than attempted vehicular theft, assault, and murder. Well, yeah, I guess it does.
